World Oceans Day takes place annually on 8th June.
During the Earth Summit in 1992, it was suggested to mark a day for the waters, but it only became officially recognized in 2008.
Its aim is to raise awareness of the importance of protecting our waters as well as fostering public interest in the sustainable management of its resources.
